Bio

Andrés Chaves is a Costa Rican percussionist and drummer. With a solid academic background, he graduated from the University of Costa Rica with a degree in Music, majoring in Percussion. Since the age of 15, he has dedicated his life to musical performance, exploring a wide range of genres—from rock and contemporary music to academic concert music.

He has taught percussion at the University of Costa Rica, sharing his knowledge with the next generation of musicians. He is an active member of the rock band Flor de Doppler, principal percussionist of the University of Costa Rica Symphony Orchestra (OSUCR), and a member of the renowned Percussion Ensemble Costa Rica – UNED.

With both the OSUCR and the Percussion Ensemble Costa Rica – UNED, he performs regularly on the country’s most prestigious stages and actively contributes to cultural outreach and social programs. He has appeared as a soloist with the Heredia Symphony Orchestra and has been invited on several occasions by the Costa Rican National Symphony Orchestra.
As a performer, Andrés has recorded with ensembles whose productions have earned Latin Grammy nominations in 2020, 2024, and 2025, including the University of Costa Rica Symphony Orchestra’s most recent nominated project.

With Flor de Doppler, he produces original music centered on the rock sound of Central America, performing at major music festivals in Costa Rica and abroad, including shows in Colombia and Nicaragua. He has also represented Costa Rica in the United States with the UCR Percussion Ensemble.

As an artist, Andrés combines the energy of live performance with a deep commitment to teaching and a passion for recording. He offers concerts, recordings, and personalized lessons, driven by the belief that music is a powerful tool to express emotion, tell stories, and shape better human beings.

He has participated in countless recordings released on major digital platforms, both through personal projects and collaborations, establishing an active and consistent presence as a performer and creator.
